Viewing group photos as thumbnails, is there a way for a clicked photo to default to original size?

Using a (sigh) dial-up connection to download selected photos is slow. Opening each selected photo in a new tab to view in full size before deciding on destination requires an extra step to go to the original view. I would rather not have to manipulate the URL on the fly to set "picmode=original" or otherwise write code to automate the process if there is an easier way.
